Kurose used to live in modern day Japan. Due to his mother's abuse, he preferred to keep to himself and was considered weird by other students. After some classmates pushed him off a staircase and he ended up in the Underworld, Kurose drew the attention of the God of Darkness, who transported him to the other world and began following him around for his own entertainment. Unlike Asahi, he doesn't want to go back to his own world. Kurose despises Asahi and the Water Dragon God for (in his eyes) turning their backs on him when he asked for help in treating the injuries of Hino, the girl whose family took him in. Desperate, he pleads with Tokoyami to return her to life, agreeing to deliver him several other lives in exchange.
